I Need Some Experienced Fishing Partners

Hi All,
I posted a freshwater fishing report on this site several months ago, and noone even responded. That's no big deal, but what is a big deal is that the fishing season is quickly approaching; and I need some experienced flats fishermen to show me the ropes.
My wife and I moved here from middle Georgia in October of last year. Since then I've purchased a center console 17 1/2 foot boat to fish in. Unfortunately, noone I know seems to have the time to go fishing.
I would truly like to take some of you guys fishing at no expense to you in exchange for some of your knowledge of the flats and the fishcatching techniques therein. I work a whacked out schedule, but I'm off most weekends. The closest access for me is St. Marks, but I'm not opposed to trying other areas.
If anyone is interested in fishing with me please e-mail me at kblaine5@mchsi.com, and leave a phone number where I can reach you. On the other hand, you may want to leave a message for me here; but I'm unfamiliar with this website and may not get your message.

Thanks, and I hope to hear from you soon,

Kevin Blaine

Hell gator, don't get down if no one responds to a post :-D We all have a lot of things going, and we kinda like ta get ta see where a person is coming from "IE, seeing a few post" before we just jump in there 8) plus, they aint many of us fresh water fellas on here :o There are a lot of folks on here that will give you a lot of tips and info, but may decline a fishing trip simply do to the fact that we enjoy fishing on our on a lot "time away from every thing and every body" ask ? get to know us "and us know you", we are a friendly bunch, but a diferent bunch just the same. Keep yer name out there, post ? and answer a few ?, or just let us know that yer still out there and you will get a response or a dozen

Wevans is right about freshwater posts and responses. Very few folks on this site will respond to freshwater post. Simply because most are dedicated saltwater sailors.
Wevans, Tin Can, dewya, myself, and a couple more are about the only folks who love freswater fishing about as much as saltwater, period. Any kind of fishing makes us smile.
You can learn anything you need to know to get started flats fishing from the posts on this site. The next step has got to be experience on the water. We've had a number of BBF fishing floatillas, and get togethers this past year. Next one, just jump right in. We have a lot of folks on this site that are outstanding flats fishermen but are no-boaters. Try to hook up with them first. Many of them are always looking for a ride. I'd love to fish with you, but I'm partial to fishing out of my own boat, like most other boaters.
When your ready to go, just advertise it, you'll get plenty of experienced takers.

All good advice givin here. Other factors also Gator, when I go out I have the Son on board, so there are very few times someone else is not on the boat. But if I could plan it at the right time that he would be busy I would go. :-D

welcome algaegator, we read all the posts, even if we don,t respond to them all.

This is one of the friendlier boards around.
Its a pity you didn,t go to the Gathering a few weeks ago.
There you could have met most of this Bunch, that would certainly have put you off having any of them in your boat. :-D :-D

Have you thought of joining NFGFC ?
That would be a great way to find fishing buddies.

AG, like you I was a novice, but like the post from ds, wevans, cs cran etc...they sent you, abide by it. I am still learning, but have learned 70% of what I know now from this board. I followed it for a year before joining. I was aprehensive to post, but 95% of the time I got answers to all my questions. Accurate ones. Even if it had been posted before and I did not realize it. Go back and study the board in all categories. You will find answers there to a great deal of questions you may have. I'm still learning, just keep fishing and study. I also joined NFGFC. There is a link on the main page here. The learning process can be fun, just do not be shy to ask or respond. I enjoy fresh water, but salt water is more exciting and challenging to me. This site deals mostly with salt water. Lake seminole is a good freah water lake close to Havana. Where in Havana, I just bought a house there in Novemeber. Love it out there, a little further to the coast though. Good luck

As always, our friend from across the big water has made a good suggestion. The NFGFC Econfina tournament on April 3 is a draw tournament so you might get lucky and draw someone who knows what they're doing.

Hey A-gator!

I'm new here on the board and a relatively new saltwater fisherman. I soak up every word here from the experienced and apply it on the water every weekend the weather allows.

Don't hesitate to ask even what you may think a "stupid" question. Hey, if they can tolerate my "Why do mullet jump?" they can put up with anything.

So I echo the comments here on "read, read, read... fish, fish, fish". I also understand that it's cool to have fishin' buddies that'll get out there with you...

Thanks

What kind of boat do you have, is it set up for skinny water or what. I have a 17 ft mako and I need a little more water than some of these quys.

Boat Draft

Todd,
In answer to your question I have a Grady White Spirit 175, and like you I draw a little more water than I'd like. With the engine up my boat drafts 12" and about twice that with the engine down. I thought long and hard before I bought a boat and decided that I'd rather have one that would take me offshore a few miles on calm days, and so far I really love my boat.

Sorry Tod

Tod,
I'm sorry I spelled your name wrong.

I use an older 18 foot heavy hulled boat that draws nearly 18 inches when setting flat with motor trimmed up. Don't seem to get in the way of shoreline fishing too much. Little tough on the oyster bar fishing sometimes.
Your trolling motor is the key.

Hi CSMarine,
What does the C and the S stand for? You're obviously an ex-jarhead like myself judging by your "Semper Fi" logo. Anyway, I go through Sylvester often as it's on the way to my parents' house. I have lots of folks in Ashburn, and it occured to me that we may know some of the same people. We should go fishin regardless.
