Buddy of mine slammed the "sand trout" today and I'm headed down myself in the am....How good are these for table fare compared to the speckled trout we normally catch? They caught 7 keepers of those also. Looks like the bite is picking up pretty good. :D

Fry up two platters of each and even the most discriminating palette will have a hard time telling the difference.

Bite is definitely picking up. Water is cooling, clearing and it's going off.

Excellent, same as the specks. Felet fry, place on toasted soft bun with fresh horseradish sauce and enjoy the best fish sammich ever.

They are good, seem to be better fresh not frozen in my experience unlike the specs. The meat is a little more tender.

Not really, this is a good article on them.

My son and I caught some Saturday in the NFGFC tournament. We camped at Rocky's for the weekend and went back on Sunday. Got another batch of them along with some specs on Sunday too.

Speaking of Sand Trout, there's a spot off the beach in Alligator Point where we absolutely slaughtered them a couple of years ago. There's a straight shot to the beach in between two houses, not too long after you pass the road to go Bald Point State Park. People used to park on the right side of the road, and cross over a sandy hill in between the two houses on the left side of the road, and fish off the beach. On more than one occasion we caught well over 50 sand trout in this spot. It also was a good location for fairly large shrimp that summer. This was probably my favorite spot to shoreline fish in the area. However, earlier this year when we were going to fish that location, we noticed a sign had been posted. I forget exactly what the sign said, but I do know it was put there to prevent people from crossing over. So we left and haven't been in there since, but a few days ago when passing by, I'm pretty sure that sign had been removed. Does anyone know the deal with this spot? I'd love to fish that area again, but don't want to run into any trouble doing so.
