Good pier king story Jerry. Reminds me of when I lived in North Carolina. Had a condo on Wrightsville Beach about 300 feet from a fishing pier. I spent many hours on that pier. The locals would kingfish off the pier. They would take a large, long surf rod and sling a 4-6 ounce weight out about 100 yards. Then they would attach a live bait to another rig with a clothespin and let it slide down the line. Most of this was done at night. The piers had spot lights shining out towards Europe. You could see your bait swimming and the BIG kings come nail your bait.
