I give up

for now.

Went out last Saturday. Used the trolling motor to fill the livewell with bait. Got out a ways and tried to put the motor in neutral to crank it (I tow it in gear). NOTHING. (I had just ran it less than a month ago before I went out of town for 2 weeks for a duck hunt). Worked for a solid hour, could not get it in neutral, trolled back in and put it on the trailer (after giving a bucket full of bait to 2 guys heading out).

No worries. Brother and I go out in his boat today. Cranks right up and we head out. get out to spot 1 and throttle back and motor dies. can't do more than idle. We say to heck with it and start fishing. 10 minutes, 3 trout. This could be fun. trolling motor dies. We finally get motor cranked and head back in. Dies about 3 hundred yards from the landing and we paddle to shore and puch pole our way back to the landing and load it up. while loading it, I get a call from my boat guy, my boat is ready. So I take brothers boat and drop it off and pick mine up. Both of his motors ran fine at his house this morning.

Ya gotta be tough.

Sorry Doc, rough days. Hopefully your problem was only a throttle cable. Not sure about your Bro. I hope it works out.

It was no biggie and was an easy fix. The guy showed me how to do it myself and also how to prevent it in the future.

I know we had two motors conched out and were in Federal waters and Obomba never showed up to help us.

You should have called the SEALs, they would not leave you stranded.

Oh sorry. The shift lever arm (not where the cable attaches, but the actual arm just below the power head) had some corrosion and was stuck. He just had to drop the lower cowling and lube it up. I will do that once a year and use some lube on all the moving parts.
