Does anybody use anything besides the bar oil? Like, a certain grade motor oil, gear oil???

Any thicker(40-50) weight oil works fine.

I think you'll find that most bar oil is 30w. 30w motor oil works just fine although it can be more expensive than bar oil. You can use used motor oil if you strain it thru a fine strainer to remove anything chunky that might clog your oiling port.

Bar oil is cheap. Why not just use what was made for the saw in the first place?

Used motor oil is ALL I've ever used... never had a problem with it yet.

no more often than I use my saw, I just use whatever bar oil I can pickup at HD or Lowes. My current gallon is going on 2 years.

While living out West, I ran cooking oil when quartering Elk. It worked well.

Thanks BBG and Joe. I'm not quartering anything but wood. But, that's good to know!
