I'm taking my kids camping and fishing at the Ochlockonee State Park this weekend. I'm wondering about how the fishing is between the park and bridge. I see from Google Earth that there is a deep channel that winds through the area. Does anyone have reports and guidance that will help me catch some dinner for Saturday night?

We have been catching trout and reds (and one big black drum) around the docks along Surf Road in the bay. There are some good holes and oyster bars in front of some of the docks. They were biting on frozen shrimp under a cork and on a jig head a week or so ago. There were also quite a few sheepshead around so we went through a lot of bait. Hope this helps.

Man love going camping down there, me and the boys went a couple months ago when that tropical storm cut our trip short or we were gonna have to use the boat to get home. There is a point at the mouth of dead river and the sopchoppy river that usually as some good moving water and fish when the tide is moving good. You can see the ramp on surf road from there. Weather should be great for y'all this weekend, hope y'all have a great time.

We caught a big black drum, 2 keeper red's and a limit of trout at the mouth of the Sopchoppy (8 to 10 ft) and the mouth of the Ochlockonee (18 to 20ft.) on Monday the 5th.
Also, caught lots of undersize trout at the Sopchoppy.

How did the fishing / camping trip go? Were you able to find any fish?

We had a wonderful time. This was our second trip there. We stayed in site 18. This and 19 are the best sites as they are right on the river. We spent some time on the river Saturday. It was very windy. We managed to find a nice area with a wind break, warm water, current and fish. Even though the fish finder was lighting up like a Christmas tree, we couldn't manage to get them to bite. We were fishing bull minnows, mullet and shrimp. I talked to some other fisherman and found their luck wasn't much better. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to spending some time there again in the spring.
