Feeler posting. This is a 2009 Evinrude E-tech 40 HP Model #E40ESLSE. The engine will be available during the later part of December. This engine is spotless and has no more than 15 or 20 hours on the engine. I’ll let the photos speak for the condition of the engine. Here's the story. I've bought a 2007 SeaArk 1872. The owner was an elderly gentleman in his 70''s from Pensacola. When he bought the package, he just wanted to go "putt putt" with the boat and that was it. Sadly, after using the boat 3 times he passed away. He initially took delivery and unexpectedly, his health started to decline. His son in-law has a considerably bigger offshore boat and has no use for the "Ark" and his mother who is in her late 70's just wanted to sell the package to someone to would use it, enter ME On average, an outboard is used 50 hours per year. Nada price on this engine is $4,010. As noted on Nada dot com “Outboard motors in exceptional condition can be worth a significantly higher value than the Average Retail Price shown”. Take into account that a typical 2009 engine will have somewhere in the area of 200 hours on it.

There is no difference between this engine and a 2013 except price. The price on a 2013 is North of $6k. While I haven't checked, it's entirely possible that while the original warranty has expired, the engine may be eligible for an extended warranty from Evinrude. At this point, just thinking out loud. I’m listing what is essentially the same engine and as clean as new. Price: After thought, I'm not "dead set" as it were. I'd consider reasonable offers. As noted, the engine will not be available until the later part of December. If you’d have an interest, please contact me. I'm going to repower with another ETech. Controls etc., will not be included.

Have you tried running it to see what it will do? It might surprise you. My old Tracker TX 175 had a 89 Mercury Classic 50 (actually rated at 45). That engine would push the boat at about 29 mph wide open and cruise at 24 all day. That was an old hull with a lot decking in it. I didn't win any races but I got there quick enough and the lighter engine kept the stern from bottoming out when I wanted to fish in a foot of water.

Actually no I haven't and a good thought. Truth be told lol, I like to hit the throttle and "get gone"... I've owned similar boats in the past and based on those experiences, I'd be better suited with a 90 or better. The hull is rated for a 130.

Badbagger, I'm with Rhettley on this one... sure would want to see what it does before making a decision, even understanding you want speed. Can't hurt to test it and see what it'll actually do.

Kind of in the same boat in that I've got a 22' Panga powered by a 90 etec. Know I could put at least a 115 on it, and see lots of folks putting 150s on them... that shared, seems about half the time I go out I can't even run WOT at the 35 my boat does comfortably because seas are choppy, requiring me to throttle down to around 20. And not many times I can honestly remember the 35 frustrating me. Long runs for me out of Ecky are 15 miles or so, and just never remember many times I was upset it took me 30 minutes to get offshore vs cutting ten minutes or so off. Maybe two storms in 10 years it would have been nice to run in faster, but with most storms bringing chop with them, again the 90 has really served me well.

Did the old man tell you what his top speed was with the setup? Just curious.

My old Tracker was rated for a 90 I believe but had the 45 on it. With the right prop and the hydrofoil planing was never a problem and the hydrofoil did wonders for handling the chop. Sometimes I would have liked to been able to run about 50 mph but it was a fishing boat not a hot rod. My dad's Champion bass boat would run about 68 mph but most of the time we cruised about 32 mph. I'd have cruised slower in the bay sometimes but that hull didn't like to cruise much below that.
Try it out and see what the top end and the comfortable cruising speed is. If it's not fast enough for you definitely get a bigger motor or you'll always be wanting to go just a little faster. That 40 is super clean and should be easy to sell although without controls might make it a little harder unless you find someone who already has their own.

Thanks Gyrene and all. I have no idea, the "old man" never did age another year. He passed away before he could use the boat for the 4th time. I'll give it a run as suggested. You can just about eat off the engine.

I have a 70hp yamaha on a 18ft g3 with a tunnel hull and it runs in the low 30's.a 90 would probably push it pretty good.

Thanks MP. A 90 should be plenty. The 115 is a grand more and just not worth it to me.

Looks like the prefect motor for my pontoon, would love to repower it, I'm thinking it would be the same length as my 25 long shaft that I have on it now. If anyone knows if it would work on it or not? 18ft bass buggy just feeling it out

I think the L in the model number indicates a long shaft but that means 20 inches. X = extra long = 25".

It all depends on your boat. I've seen pontoons with a 20" shaft. I recently looked at a Yamaha 115 in Atlanta that had a 20" shaft on a pontoon. My best suggestion rather than steer you wrong, call Tracker Marine. It's entirely possible it will work.

I had a second question regarding the use of this engine on a pontoon boat this morning. Just for my own knowledge and in order to answer the question properly, I did a bit of research. From what I've found, the vast majority of pontoon boats are designed to use a 20" shaft outboard which this is. Below are some posts I've located to reference the info. Lastly, is a link for the specs on the engine. Shaft length, weight etc. I just hate NOT knowing lol and don't like giving erroneous information.

This is a FRESH WATER only engine. Never run in salt. Going to hang a 115 off the stern of the new ride.
