Many people are using Double Barrels these days. What are your thoughts on them and differences between the two?

It's personal preference. I own both. My one recommendation is "DON'T BUY CHEAP". Whether you choose stacked or side by, buy a quality gun.

Like TC, I have owned both and I find that unlike TC, I can consistently miss with either. To me, its sort of like taking a walk with a girl on your arm... if there's a choice take the one your most comfortable with ! :smt007

Better yet, get a Benelli Super Black Eagle 2 w/ different chokes for each type of game.

I have only owned o/u's and are partial them. One thing that has always stuck in my mind was the old saying "Beware of the man with one gun". Make a decision and get accustomed and comfortable with your shotgun.

I like the O/U. My brother likes both, but if he had the coin, a high dollar SxS is his dream. I finally splurged and spent the money on my dream gun (Classic Doubles 101, 26" 3" choke tubes and ported barrels - it is the Winchester 101 made in the same factory for 3 years after Winchester quit importing them-with more upgrades and better quality wood than Win used). Picked it up at Kevin's for a very fair price a few years back.

Either way, buy the best one you can afford and for goodness sake, hold all the different ones in your hands first to make sure you mount the gun properly. A Browning Synergy or Citori does not fit me worth a flip and the Red Label is just so so. I have shot a 101 for 38 years, so that may be why.

I love my side-by-sides. The one I'm carrying now is a Fox 20 gauge. Light, balanced, a natural pointer. That's the way they made them 60 years ago. Perfect cast in the stock for me. I also shot an old Parker for ducks, but it was too heavy to lug around for dove and quail. it was a 12 gauge, full and full. I've also owned several cheaper doubles, and you can really tell the difference. My only complaint with side-by-sides is there's only one place for recoil to go...into your shoulder. No mechanisms to reduce or absorb the shock. Be careful if you wear contact lenses. Also, 3 or 3 1/2-inch magnums in either OU or SS doubles can cause detached retnas if the gun isn't tight against your shoulder when you bust the cap. Just my thoughts.

This is where I run into trouble. I want to buy every one that feels good.

I think there's a much easier way to achieve the goal of this thread (ie: Over and Under or Side by Side the best?)

How many folks have an OU for sale?

How many folks have a S X S for sale?

Please PM me with Price, Condition, and Picture.

I will compute the totals for each catagory and post the results. The catagory with the fewest "for sale" will be determined the best. :pop_1 :D Just trying ta hep out a forum member.
