This has been one of the most uncommon years for mullet. Our local mullet should already be in the heavy roe season and they are far from it. The fish are poor and thin with some are noticbly sick loooking. I heard the locals on the coast saying that some have stopped eating them as well. Can anybody out there shed any light on this.

Speaking with 2 guys from NFGFC at the party last night talking about mullet they encountered Saturday.
Said the most they have seen in years.
The biggest in years.
And the roe they extracted was the biggest ever seen.

We netted a bunch yesterday and they were delicious. The filets are in brine and we fried all the backbones. All fish were healthy, plump etc.

Hordes of fat torpedo mullet in the St Marks tidal creeks now. Just beware the grabby limestone & oyster shell bottoms.

Seems we have a mixed bag on the Mullet. The reports I have are from people around the Apalacicola to Panacea area. Sounds like the mullet are in better shape back to the east. The folks at "MY WAY" say the row have been very hard to find in the Panacea area and they clean a lot of mullet.
