Dog Island question.

What exactly is the "red can" at dog Island? Im going to assume that it is the red buoy that you loop around to head out to sea after putting in at Lanark ramp?

Would it be the can that marks the West side of Dog Island Reef?

You are correct! There is also one about a mile out once you cross through the pass that some refer to as the red can.
