Launched the boat about 1:30 and had our limit by 4:30. We thought the trout might be still up the river above the ramp, but not a single bite up there. So we headed south and found their hiding place. Once again plugs were the ticket. We only caught 1 trout on a popping cork with gulp. Water temp varied from 61-64 degrees. They still wanted a slow presentation with the sinking plugs. My son and I also caught about 8 or 10 trout that were 14.5". We also lost 2 nice keepers right at the boat. Most of the fish were caught 1 hr before high tide until 1 hr after high tide. If there was a ripple on the water, the trout were biting. We caught enough trout for a good mess, so no reds on this trip. Nice 65 degree weather, and another memory added with my favorite fishing buddy on the water.

We had our best luck in 5'-6'. Most of the fish I caught was with a very slow retrieve. I noticed several fish were just bumping the plug with their nose. I would give it some short twitches, then stop, and wham! It was like the fish were following the plug and running into it when it stopped.

A plug is a generic term for a baitfish imitation of all makes and models made of wood or plastic..
