April NFGFC Tournament

Just a reminder that the next NFGFC Tournament is Saturday, April 3rd at the Econfina River Public Ramp. This tournament is a little different so be sure to read the rules carefully.

This tournament is a Draw Tournament. Captains will draw their team from names of passengers.

Captains should have their entry forms filled out when they arrive at the ramp. Please leave the teammate slots blank until your team is picked.

No late entries will be accepted. Captains and passengers must be entered and fees paid, prior to blast off.

Captains should only bring the same number of people with them as will make up their final team. This will ensure everyone has a spot on a boat.

Captains are encouraged to bring non-boater members of the Club if possible. Contact info for non-boaters can be located at http://www.nfgfc.org/nonboater/nonboater.php

Non club member guests and children under 16 may fish with the Captain who brought them.

At 6:50, all non-captain names will go into a box and be drawn at random by the captains. Each captain will take turns drawing names until the number of passengers they brought has been reached.

If a captain draws the name of a passenger they brought, the name will be put back in the hat, and the captain will redraw. This is to ensure true randomness to the teams.

Passengers are expected to have their own gear, food, drinks, etc. ready to be transferred to their captain's boat. Captains will have discretion on amount of gear allowed by passengers based on space/safety.

Passengers are expected to follow the instructions of the host captain while aboard the vessel.

If a team places, captains have discretion on how monetary awards are distributed among the team.

Blast-off will occur at 7:00am. Because of the complexity of the tournament setup, please arrive as early as possible. Captains should have their boats in the water as early as possible. The Econfina ramp has a $4.00 launch fee, so plan accordingly.

Weigh-in between 2:00 and 2:30pm. We will be weighing the largest 1 person limit of trout and the largest redfish. Bonus species for this tournament is Spanish mackerel. Teams weighing a legal Spanish mackerel will receive 1 bonus point towards angler of the year standings.

NFGFC members: $10. Non-NFGFC members: $15. Pay by mail, at the ramp, or online at NFGFC.org by pay-pal (there is an additional charge to pay by pay-pal). This is a 100% payout tournament.

As always, there will be a fish-fry, and hot dogs for the kids/appetizers. The cookout will be held at the Pavilion and all members, family & friends are invited to the cookout...feel free to bring a covered dish to share, or just bring yourself. Whether you're going to fish in the tournament, or just come to the cookout, please let Mike Scibelli know if you plan to attend, and how many will be in your party, so we can have enough food for everyone.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks,
NFGFC Activities Committee

Blasting off at 7:00 could be quite interesting with a low tide at 6:57 at -0.1 :o .

Depending on your rig and how familar you are with the river... Yes.

I made it out 3 wks ago (19' Carolina skif) on a neg -.5 with no major difficulty but it was really skinny! Anyone who hasn't been out of the Econfina before, probably ought to be brief'd a bit by someone who has. Might be a good idea for the Captains meeting if we have any new folks. Tom??

If they follow the channel markers there really shouldn't be much of a problem, but I wouldn't come off plane and expect to get back on. I have a good route going out and will have the skeg guard on so I'm not worried. Just don't slow down until you are about a mile off the hill.

One thing I don't want is people feeling like they can follow me out. While I am confident, stupid, etc. about my boat making it, I'm not like that for other folks' equipment.

I need someone to ride down with me. If anyone wants to go let me know.

I'm in for the turn'y with one rider.

If someone else wants to participate, I can offer one more slot. That will mean that I will need to fish with a team of 3 (me plus 2) but I don't have a problem with that.
