You may need to focus on your other arm and become more ambidextrous... Save the other hand for

I'll be serious here for a moment . . . which is a bit difficult to do given the softball you pitched . . .
Did you have any "work" done on that shoulder or did you just injure it a while back? I have had two shoulder injuries from lifting or pulling heavy things, and they took months to fully heal. Have you considered (or already are doing) physical therapy? With a big trip coming up in April I would think it is good insurance to see the PT guys. PT really helped me.
Good luck,
EJ

Fishing buddy had his surgery on his soulder about ten years ago -- felt so good he figured he didn't need the PT. WRONG He pulled the repair loose, then suffered for ten years until his arm got so bad - if he wanted to shake hands with someone, he would have to lift his right hand up with his left hand to reach your hand!! Now, he is about three months recovered from his second surgery, and knows his PT very good. They have some strange excersizes, but they have them for a purpose. Maybe(?) this year he will come fishing with me again???

O.K., well, I hope it goes well for you. PT helps, but getting older makes us easier targets for injury. You and me both, Wevans. We aren't 30, or even 50, anymore. I'm 66.
I just got done doing my set for today to work my left bicep, PT exercise. Injured it 3 weeks ago. I am going on a 60 mile kayak trip in March, gotta heal. So I know the feeling.

Good morning Wevans.
I had pretty much the same proceedure several years ago on my right shoulder. Complete "open" rotator cuff repair. I also had a fishing trip planned to the Keys with two of my sons and I was very worried that I would not be able to be effective in time. I can say from experience that any type of over hand activity (ie casting) would have been very difficult or uncomfortable. My fishing was different than what your looking towards. Bottom fishing over the rail doesn't have the same motion as casting. I can remember that at 6 wks I was pushing a lawn mower (carefully) but was able to manage it pretty well. I was able to make the fishing trip but I could tell it was a strain on my shoulder using the bottom rig with some fairly heavy egg sinkers. Especially when I would swing the weight out just a bit as I let the bait drop to the bottom. After a couple of days it was sore and a bit stiff but I wouldn't say "it was killing me". The best advice I can give you is to stay as focused as you possibly can on therapy and working with increasing your range of motion. At the same time don't push it. If you do to much now,it's really going to complicate the complete process. I can't imagine a motion more problematic for you than the casting motion your attempting and what you would be doing on seminole. Lots and lots of casts... I would say plan on slowing down, making fewer casts and using TWO hands. Your definately going to see a lot of improvement between now and April... provided you don't damage the repair. Good luck, its going to get better but just not as quick as you want it to. Your going to see incremental improvement for a year or more.

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement y'all

I'll TRY and take it slow and continue with the PT until it gets well
