Piney Woods Rooter: 1st hog for Casey

My just turned 14 year old Casey finally got his first hog! With hogs all over the place you’d think it would have happened sooner but hogs have been elusive for him. It’s been a challenging hunting season with active kids and their schedules, Boy Scouts, a lot of hunting land underwater, a continuing bear problem and just not enough hunting time.

This morning we got to the blind an hour before sunrise. Woods were wet & quiet, green, a little rain, and plenty of mosquitoes. At 9 a.m. a lone boar came in awful nervous. At 60 yards Casey dropped the boar with the 30-30 and then it got up to run about 17 yards.

Awesome way to spend a beautiful morning...chasing a hog instead of chasing a boy.

Pretty cool!

Casey said a prayer of gratitude and this hog is gonna be the featured guest for a number of dinners.

Hoo Yah!!

Does your son know how lucky he is to have a father who spends this kind of time with him and exposes him to the good life! Awesome!

Thanks MudDucker!! You're comment was most appreciated. I made sure to show Casey this post and I noticed he was reading the comments too.

I tell him how fortunate he & his sister are regarding our outdoor adventures but I don’t think he actually comprehends what you’ve noted. Sometime he will but right now I think he thinks it’s just the norm.
