I've fished Gasparilla sound just north of there... Docks held Mangrove snapper, snook, reds and trout.
Trout all over the grass flats!
Most folks free line white bait but I caught lots of fish under a Cajun thunder just like we fish up here.

Dom, I've never fished quite that far south, but fished Charlotte harbor plenty. Most of my buddies that guide and fish there live and die by live pilchards. They spend the best part of the am majic hour chumming and castnetting pilchards. They will head for the hill at 9 am if they don't have enough or big enough bait. When the tide moves up the snook head way up in the mangrove roots chasing bait. They will stun bait and throw them under the mangroves w a cut off fat wiffle ball bat. It brings em out. With that being said, there is nothing cooler than watching a huge snook blow up a topwater plug. That's what I'd throw early am under the mangroves. Hope this helps. Shoot me a pm and let me know where you plan on fishing and I'll call a few buds and see if I can point you in the right direction. I'm headed that way next month. Can't wait!!
