More Ecky Trout 4/7/13

I left the house a little after 6am. My buddy had family stuff to do so I went solo. I stopped for a breakfast sandwich and then for ice. While I was getting ice I noticed that the wind was starting to pick up and I was hoping it was not going to get worse.
I got to the Econfina state park ramp and in the water around 7:40. The water was still flowing out of the river, which was already very low. I was almost unable to get out of the river with the water level.
I am not real familiar with that area, but I knew where I wanted to fish would be impossible with the low tide. I was looking at the GPS map and saw an area marked as 6-8 to the ESE. I slowly made my way toward it and found a 3 foot flat and started fishing. On the third cast I got into the trout steadily. I had all I was going to keep and was throwing back fish in about half an hour. The water was very dark and I was not able to see bottom. The water temp was 62 degrees and the wind was still increasing slightly at around 10mph.
As the bite slowed I decided to make another drift through the same area. Shortly after I set up I found the wind had shifted and the bite was off. I moved to the area I really wanted to fish and found a few, but not the numbers I was expecting.
All in all it was a very good day. I caught more than 20 trout up to 18". All the fish were caught on CT/glow Gulp combo. I tried other baits with no success. There were 8-10 shorts. All the fish were very healthy and fat. They have not been going without during the winter. The water temp was 67 when I headed for the hill at 1:30.
It looks like it is going to be a very nice spring in the forgotten coast. I hope everyone who wants to can get out and start catching some fish.
