I want to try trolling for grouper in the 25' range and need a couple rigs for it. Trying not to spend too much to see if it works for me and my boat. Any ideas?
Thanks

I like the Shimano Baitrunner 6500 for several reasons. In addition to trolling with it, you can live bait for cobia or tarpon and if you have to move off a rock pile that you have been trolling and cast back to it to get them to hit, it works well for that too.
I couple mine with the Ugly Stick Tiger rods. They are inexpensive, nearly indestructible and there is something about the way they are made that makes the tip bounce easily when you are trolling large plugs. If you see the tip stop bouncing, you know immediately that you have weeds on your plug.
Capt. Gene Strickland told me about them many years ago. I bought 2 of these set ups that have never failed me.

I agree. Great suggestion Steve! I love trolling for Grouper with spinning setups. Makes the fight much more fun in my opinion, plus the drag system is usually smoother. I am not a big fan of the Ugly Sticks, but for trolling purposes I can see how they would work very well. If you get the ones with the glow tips, you can troll at night. :o :-D
