Hello forum members, My family and I are staying in Cape San Blas (Dunes Club) condos July 27- August 3. We are shore bound fishing people. So we need some good locations for some Mid Summer action while visiting the Forgotten Coast.

I have a 16 year old and a 12 year old both boys who love to fish. We live over in the Jacksonville area of NE Florida. So we fish a lot for Reds, Flounder and Sheepshead.

Hopefully someone can point us to some decent fishing spots. We are open to kayak, dock and or pier and surf. Also we plan on hunting for scallops for our fist time.

One more thing. Can someone give us their honest opinion on the local Party Boat that goes out of PSJ. It's a toss up, do I rent a pontoon boat for a day to fish and hunt scallops? Or do I pay $80 bucks a head for the 4 of us to go on the party boat.

One more thing if any of you ever come over my way feel free to ask anything. We no the area quite well.

Stop by the Cape Trading Post on the Gulf side about a mile out farther than the BP. I've know the owners since the first and second grade and we've been best friends ever since. They have a full line of groceries, meats, some veggies, frozen foods, beer, wine, liquor, fresh pizza that is really good, and all the fishing, scalloping and tourist stuff you might need. Ask John or Todd what is biting and where to go. They can help with the scallops too. They can tell you about the guides in the area. It might be just as cheap to get an inshore guide as to take everyone on the party boat. They fish inshore and offshore and John has an old Jeep he rides the beaches in and fishes from the beach so he can help with areas to try for flounder, reds, tarpon, or ladyfish that will keep the kids occupied.
In Port St Joe Half Hitch and Blue Water can help with anything you need and tell you what's biting.
That time of year the water is warm so the best inshore fishing is usually very early in the morning. Hit all the potholes in the grass.

Stump hole is best fishing from shoreline generally. Scallop Cove rents kayaks. Presnell's rents boats and has guides.
