Fished the refuge wash bar this morning for a few hours - caught a few blue runners, pinfish and a pigfish and lost a couple of spanish or ladyfish; nothing special but still fun. My son picked up a nice spanish on a mirrodine and there were spanish busting the surface off and on. I almost got spooled on my 7wt - something picked up the fly and then took off toward deep water. It took about 150 yards of backing out and wasn't slowing, so I started to pressure it by cupping the spool but the end loop on the fly line stripped out and I lost whatever it was. I don't think it was a ray but it might have been. It also could have been a 5'-6' shark that cruised over the bar by us earlier. If so, I must have hooked it in the corner of the mouth. It hit a pearl and silver polarflash fly.
