Visiting in Fall, Advice requested

Hey all,
Long story short, my wife forbade me from bringing my boat on our "Family Vacation" any more. She agreed, however, to allow me to go away several times each year with the guys to do some fishing, etc without her and the children.
I remember long ago coming to Shell Point with my grandpa and spending all day catching trout and having a blast.
My goal now is to spend an extended weekend in the fall (Mid October) at Shell Point and I'm curious as to what we can expect by way of fishing either in the flats or near-shore. We may be open to hiring someone for a day to take us out and show us the ropes. I know very little about fishing the area and would like to be taught to fish the area properly, respecting local customs, etc.
My boat is a 20' Proline CC that pushes about 18" of water
Any advice that can be given would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
abclay
