Lanark Landing - Memorial Day Weekend

I put in at Lanark for the first time on Saturday morning and was very impressed with the friendliness and courtesy that was extended by Mike and the other two gentleman that were collecting the launch fees. I enjoyed talking with these guys and since it was my first launch here, I asked them about anything to watch for. They gave me excellent navigational advice on getting out of landing and what to look for coming and going along with what other fishermen were catching. I launched Sat, Sun, and Monday and had great experiences each time. Let me say that Mike works his tail off getting boats in and out. He even ran and showed my wife where to park my truck / trailer in the lot next door. I also had the pleasure of meeting Carson at the store as well as I needed some more Non-Ethenol gas in the boat. These are some great folks to do business with and I look forward to getting back down there soon.
As far as the fishing, I caught Trout, Ladys, plenty of Spanish, plenty of small sharks, and two nice Reds, 26" and 25" around Dog Island. Since I had my family with me (wife and two girls, 7 and 5) we fished a little and played alot. I released all of the catch with the exception of the reds. I met an older couple, Ken and Susie, on the island and ended up giving them the two reds. They were pleased and thanked us for them. After a little while they came back to us and asked if we would be back on the island on Sunday and we said yes. Susie then said they would bring the reds back and we would grill them up on the beach. So, we did and let me say those were some of the best tasting fish that I have grilled. There is something about cooking right there on the beach while the kids are playing in the sand and everyone is having a great time.
For the most part we had a great experience with all people and boaters with the exception for the one boat that came 50 yards from my boat while I was fishing the Dog Island Reef. All that ocean and he had to come so close by right in the direction I was drifting. Didn't look like a fisherman, he looked like he was headed down to the Bash.
Anyway, great trip, great folks, great memories with the family. I can't wait to get back down there!
