St. George inshore

Post by pizzle4 »

I am hauling my 19ft Carolina skiff down to St. George this week. I was planning on launching at the Boy Scout ramp. Is that a good ramp? Does anyone have any suggestions on what areas to target?

I fished near there not this past weekend, but the weekend before. A lot of the water along US 98 was stirred up and cloudy, especially both sides of the Carabelle River entrance. We fishing along 98 with no luck, then moved to the sandbars between US 98 and the islands with limited success. Then moved again to the shore side of Dog Island which was the cleanest water we found all day, and the area where we had the most success.

The water clarity changes a lot over there depending on the tides, wind, rain, etc. I would just keep moving until you find the cleanest water available. The fish we found hit topwaters and minnow baits - (Bomber Long A or Redfin).

Good Luck

Update: launched at the boat ramp at the foot of the bridge. Headed east near Rattlesnake cove. Drifted w/ popping corks and live shrimp. Had a kid who had never been saltwater fishing before. He caught the first Spec of the day. We ended up catching short trout, Sail Cats, Ladyfish and sharks the whole time we were out. Fished from 6:45-10:45....just in time to miss some rain. It's always cool to put rookies on fish....no matter the type. We had a blast! Sorry no pics....
