Believe it or not, but we caught a bunch right under the Panacea pier using live shrimp. All were over 14"

I haven't tried it in that area but we target them out of Mexico Beach/Indian Pass area. Chum, light floro leaders, and small hooks. They have excellent vision and are highly suspicious.

I USE TO LIVE IN MEXICO BEACH, BUT HAD TO MOVE TO GEORGIA WITH MY JOB. NOW I FISH OUT OF KEATON. TRIED THE GA. COAST BUT JUST DON'T LIKE IT. JUST TRYING TO GET SOME INPUT ON THE FISHING OUT OF KEATON. THE BOTTOM MAKE UP IS DIFFERENT THAN THAT AT MEXICO BEACH.

I've never fished Keaton. Aucilla is as far east as I've tried yet. I imagine if you can find a wreck or rocks over that way it would pretty much be the same. Whether deep or shallow they seem pretty structure oriented. I've caught them in the Keys and in Destin also and everywhere I've caught then there has been structure, usually with some relief. Chumming sure helps and they will come up in the water column, even to within site of the boat. Just don't fill them up with big chunks of chum. Like I said earlier, lighter floro leader and small hooks. Hide the hook in the bait unless you are using live bait.

We've been catching keepers on the oyster bars out from the light house.
