Woolley Park Pier 7/14: NADA

Newbie here, so the reason I didn't get even a nibble may not have anything to do with the fish. However, went to the pier on a rising tide (4 p.m., high tide was at 7). Tried a few things in my tackle box: soft plastic crab, bucktail jig by itself, bucktail jig with a clicking float...nada. Folks up the pier had frozen shrimp: given their glum looks, they weren't getting anything either. Still, it was a beautiful day with NO RAIN so all in all, ok!

The only place that I fish from the bank in Panacea is at Levy Bay Rd Landing. You got a deep channel, a creek and some Oyster bars to fish there

Newbie,
You can catch fish off that pier but you have to be able to throw out to the deeper water about 20-30 yds. in front of the pier. There is usually a crab trap float out in the deep water so you will see where the deeper water is. Use a bottom rig with about 1/2 oz. weight and small steel hook. You might want to use a steel leader, there are some pretty big sharks out there. I got about a 2-footer last time I went. Good luck.

i would suggest using some live baitfish. toss a cast net and see what you can come up with. mud minows, small mullet, and pinfish are all choice baits! if you don't have a cast net or aren't having an success throwing it go ahead and try to catch a few baits with a small piece of gulp or shrimp on a small hook and splitshot. pinfish(choafers), grunts and croakers can all normally be caught around most of the area piers. then from there put one out on a float and one out on a botom rig. expiriement with different lengths of leader for the float rig and different weights on the bottom rig depending on the size of bait and current.
