This is my first post. Love the site.
Put it at lighthouse around 9:30 headed out to gray mare rock area looking for trout. Had my father in law and Bro in law on board. Father in law is a displaced canadian and Bro in law is from over near Hosford way. We saw some really funny looking triggerfish or something, they didint look like your normal colorfull triggerfish but they must be from the same family. Bro in law insisted using a beetle spin says the brim cant resist it. I kept my mouth shut. He managed to get the triggerfish? to peck at it and that kept him busy for an hour or so.
needless to say i was the only one who did much trout fishing.
Decide to move and while underway my Father in law decides to drop a 20 yr old heppes broken back plug that he insists has caught over 30 pike, out the back so hes trolling and catches a 26 inch spanish. Never heard the end of that one. We managed to find a big scholl of big spanish they were all huge. This is where it gets heartbreaking and any advice would be appreciated. Father in law spent the 30 minor so picking out a birds nest , i tried to explain that a chance like this almost never happens and we should be loading the boat. Big spanish jumping all aorund the boat. We threw spoons and they didint hity them, so we switshed to topwater which is my favorite anyways. I musty of missed about 10-15 fish. They would hit the plug, (rebel pop-r, chug-bug, and yozuri banana boats) but i couldnt seem to hook any. i dont know if two or three fish werehitting at it and knocking eachother off or what. But I have never had a problem hooking fish on topwater untill this day. They would even seem to hang on for a few feet then let go. One skyrocketed out of the water like a king. We managed to catch a mess of fish but not near as much as we should have. the spanish are thick if you can just fine them.

Welcome aboard also. The Bluefish were acting the same way as your Spanish school. They would knock a pinfish slap out of the water but not get hooked. It was still fun watching them fight over the bait though.
