Question about grouper fishing

Post by Juan »

With grouper season closed in state waters over that way. if you fish out 9 miles or more in federal waters can you bring grouper back into state waters without getting a ticket if yo0u get stopped? How do you prove they were caught in federal waters?

My understanding is that if state waters are closed, you had better not stop in them on the way back in.

Don't stop. Keep your arse moving until you get to the ramp. I called FWC about this specifically. Asked them if I put all my tackle/gear up after fishing could I stop for a swim at Och Shoals. They told me if I got checked I would get a ticket. Even if you are not "fishing" a stopped boat will be considered just that. Good luck.

I'm guessing you could get a ticket in state waters by running slow enough to be considered trolling??...
