ochlockonee shoal and what the heck is this

Fished the shoal again on Sunday. We caught lots of small black sea bass, grunts, and the wife caught one of the skinniest trouts I've ever seen. :smt011 Even hooked a remora. Apparently they like gulps to.

I also caught this. Anybody got a clue what it is? It had a mouth full of teeth and looked like a lizard to me.

Congrats on hooking a trophy lizard fish. At the risk of making forum readers barf, I can vouch for the fact they they are indeed edible. Just keep your fingers well away from their teeth while unhooking and cleaning. I once was bitten by a "dead" one that apparently came back from the grave for revenge.

Went and googled lizard fish and apparently that's it's name. Lizard Fish. We had a regular old trash fish classic this weekend. Even caught a puffer fish.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I was googling about the time you were replying. I'll have to take your word on weather or not they are good to eat. Something that ugly can't taste good.

That lizard fish makes great cut bait, especially for black sea bass

I've also heard they are the best cut bait you can use for grouper.

They work great as cut bait, and I have even used the smaller ones as live bait. I believe everything in the ocean will eat a lizard fish.

The only thing uglier than a lizardfish is a mother-in-lawfish. :o
