I keep thinking I need two decent guest rigs.
I have a handful of friends from out of town that come down once a year... Most of them do not have decent salt water tackle.
I watch then struggle trying to throw bait or rattle cork rigs with their 6foot bass tackle
Need to be 7 foot rods and 3000 class spinning reels
They are only going to get used 2-3 times a season
Any suggestions?

I use the pflueger president's. They are only 59.95 most places and I have 3 that I have been using for at least 6 or 7 years.
I usually buy good rods to go with them.

Or you could treat yourself to something nice and use your old rods for guests.

I would try a Shimano Sedona or Sahara with a lower end Shimano rod.

I agree with Steve a lower end shimano reel and maybe a clarus rod to get a good warranty still.

Go Shimano! I would do Symetre or Spirex. Check Ebay or talk to Adam @ South Ga Outdoors they will beat anyone's price! Never spend big money on a popping cork rod or drift/troll rod as sensitivity does not really matter. For jigs casting jigs and bottom fishing, a Abu 4600 or 5600 is hard to beat on strength and dependability.

i would recommend the Shimano Sedona like mentioned above. great reels for the money. with a Shimano Convergence or clarus rod. about 100 bucks a combo that will last you a while. IMO.

I also like the Plueger's a lot for just that. I can have a few cheaper rods on the boat for other people to use and I'll end up using them with each one tied with a different lure or set up for live bait. I think West Marine has them now for $60 for a combo and they'll last a long time and stay smooth.

Pa, I love em but most kids can't throw a bait caster. I have a bunch of 6500s that were my dads shiner reels.

Sedona and Clarus. Hard combo to beat. I also like some of the Cabelas rods for that purpose.

I have my guests fish a 7 foot medium light spinning rod with a Cabela's Salt Striker 30 reel spooled with 20 lb braid. The reels are $40 on sale and hold up well.
