Wanted,youth rifle

Looking for a small caliber rifle for the kids to deer hunt with this year. I've looked at several .243 set ups over the past couple weeks at the box stores. Figured I'd check to see if any of the forum folks may have opinions, advice, recommendations on anything from caliber to availability!

I'm not stuck on .243 cal, but I'm looking for something they can use up to about 100 yards or so. Looking for something a fairly good sized 9 yr old can handle.

Thanks for any insight.

If he can handle a full size gun, I'd go with a .270. They make a reduced recoil ammo that is plenty accurate at 100 yds. That way he want have to upsize the gun as he grows. You can just move into reg. ammo. At 10 my son started shooting a Remington 700 with this ammo without any issues. He's taken a few deer with this setup.
