I would like to take him on a father son day trip. He wants to take the boat and camp on an island. Is there anywhere we can do this? I'm trying to convince him to just anchor up and sleep in the boat just like his grandfather and I do.

I've seen people camping on some of the islands just outside Suwanee.

Site 2: Rock Island. This is a remote, scenic island of about twenty acres. Camping is on the west side of the island in a small cleared area with a fire ring, partially shaded by live oaks. The island can be buggy in warm weather, especially if standing water is present.

Might be some good fishing nearby ;-)

A FWC official told me when I inquired that these permits were limited to paddlers, not for powerboat operators. From what I've seen of the reservation system, I doubt that now. :smt011

I wish we did have some camping places nearby.

My family and I camped for a lot of the NFGFC tournaments last year, moving from Keaton to St. Joe Bay. Call me when you have a chance.

There is a city/county camp ground on the St. Marks river at 98 that looked nice. Not an island, but right on the river.

What about camping on one of the islands in Lake Iamonia? I recall doing that in boyscouts many moons ago.

Most if not all of those islands are "Privately" owned.

Is it illegal to just pull up into Dog Island at night?

Why not camp on little st George? Call the apalachicola national estuarine research reserve office in east point for official permission. No one will bother you, and it is a wonderful place. Talk to them to get the best spot to go. I have done it a number of times. In the olden days, they were my troops.
