Headed out of good ol' Lanark right about sunrise Friday morning in search of many reports that people were tearing up the trout. I figured the tides were a little off with the high ending a little after 6 and the low around 2:00 PM but that wasn't going to stop me from at least trying to catch a little dinner. We headed west and started off with top water plugs and then went to jigs a little later. I caught the 2 spanish on top-water which I don't think I have ever done but it was really cool. When I switched over to jigs I had the usual pinfish bites and actually caught quite a few 8-10" grouper on our first stop. I don't think I have done that in over 15 years. I finished off that spot with the right at 15" trout. THings were very slow up to that point.

We decided to make the long run to the east, even though the motor wasn't peeing right(time to change the impeller), and we made it there with no over heating alarms. We were in around 12" of water and could see many, many stingrays and quite a few fish pushing water and feeding off the bottom. We found a few schooling reds and I dropped a ZMan shrimp right in front of two which finished up my Red limit. My fishing partner started off the Red chase for both of us but couldn't seem to get that last one for the limit. I start to get hungry and proceed to eat my Firehouse sub, and finally he hooks up with what he thinks is a sailcat, until he sees that beautiful copper color.

Final tally was 2 Spanish, 1 Trout, 4 Reds. Reds were 18-22 in size.

The reds were biting better than the trout for some reason. We hardly caught any trout but I will take a limit of Reds over a limit of trout any day.
