Got a new piece of property to hunt this year just out of Thomasville and was looking forward to taking my 7 year old daugher deer hunting for the first time, EVER Sunday afternnoon! Bit the bullet and purchased some new BigGame 2-Man Treestands for us to hunt-in which worked out perfect for both of us! After gettin her all dressed up in her new CAMO and BOOTS you would have thought it was X-Mas the way she was hoppin around! After driving out to the property we had about a 500 yard walk to the stand through a cotton field and she just kept talkin about how pretty the SNOW looked! :-D Now mind you, I had never actually put her up in a treestand before so I was very impressed how easily she climbed up the ladder and got in her seat with NO-problems!

We got all locked into our safty harness and things settled down around 5:45 and as I expected then she wanted to play on my phone! Bout the time she got into her game a squirrel scampered up the tree next to us and stopped about head high and gave us a stare down!! :o She gave me the phone back and whispered in my ear how pretty the squirrel was with a BIG bussy tail. Next hour went quietly with a Hawk flyin close by hunting for his dinner when she whispered how cold things were getting! I pulled her in close trying to by some time as it was approaching the killin hour if you know what I mean. 10 minutes later I hear a faint sound behind us as I slowly turned expecting a squirrel or something when, "WOW" a big doe had quietly walked to within 15yds of our stand without the great hunter knowing it!! :-D I had her slowly sit up and her pants leg made a slight sound! The doe froze in her tracks, but after a minute or two she started walking again and we watched her walk behind some thick cover close by the stand. I instinctively picked up my bow and got ready for the shot, I drew and got anchored, and rudely discovered I could not see my sight pin on my bow!! Dang-it!! I had to let down and Grace tapped my on the shoulder asking why did I not shoot?? Not tonite honey I explained!! We just had to watch her walk slowly away but a great first experience anyway you look at it!! Now I know why they included a small light with this sight, as it was truly worthless in the pink light!!

That was a very good story! Thank you. I enjoyed reading it and was right there beside both of you. You just may have her "hooked on hunting." What a wonderful gift to give our children and I know you will teach her right. Something she will enjoy the rest of her life.

What about fishing? Have you taught her how to fish?

Keep us posted!

That's an awesome story. I wish I had the opportunity to hunt as a child. I think introducing children to the hunting and fishing lifestyle will help strengthen these sports and keep them alive. Who do you lease from in Thomasville? I am looking for a company who leases land somewhere between tallahassee and Albany to acquire a lease from next year.
