Fishing From Land

Does anyone know of any spots from land (or wading) that can produce fish? I have been trying and can't seem to hook up anything and it's starting to get frustrating. I haven't caught anything other than a catfish since the beginning of summer.

I heard the east end of St. George Island was good about 2 weeks ago, lots of whiting, drum, and sheepshead. Fresh shrimp on the bottom.

I ended up trying by the lighthouse for the first time. I walked out on the oyster bar by the channel for the boat ramp and waded out there. At the end of the oyster bar was some good current and deeper water so I threw out a cast there using a pearl white gulp shrimp on a white jig head. Ended up catching 4 trout in that spot and then one more in about 3 ft of water. Out of the 5 trout we caught the biggest was 14.5 so nothing for dinner but I was just happy to feel a fish at the end of the line again. When the tide went slack, the bite stopped.

You did good. In a little while you'll be posting big fish pictures in the forum.

St Marks Refuge smaller creeks Sunday were like a giant convention for all the 20" seatrout in Apalachee Bay. Biking along the levee gets you to more spots, in case they are moving between creeks.

MPA, I just used google maps to look at the hickory mound area and that looks nice.
Gary, what creeks hold fish in St. Marks?

Luc got his first big red at the Fort (St. Mark's) at the point of the 2 rivers. He was about 8. We learned a lot more about it, and caught many more fish, spending hours off the beach at Bald Point, before we got any boat. He's come a long way - see post "bulls" under inshore.
