I got here yesterday and fished for a quick 40 minutes before the sun went down. I fished the peak outgoing tide and the weather was very cooperative while out on the water. Spent 15 min upriver of shields and didn't get a bite on the ledges. With 15 minutes of daylight left I anchored up on the point of the Wakulla river junction. I managed to catch a short sheepshead, hardhead, and a couple other trash fish before heading in. At night I bottom fished frozen shrimp on the shallow ledge (7-13ft drop off) at the approach of the peak tide around 2:30am, a couple hundred yards upriver of shields while watching TV. I caught a couple short reds, and a keeper black drum in an hour of fishing.
Today I hit the water around noon. A friend came down to join me for the afternoon. Peak tide was at 530 today and the winds were out of the south. Water temps were almost 70. We quickly checked up river without a bite. We moved to the fort and didn't get a bite. At 1pm we ran down river to the gulf, found a bend in the river close to the mouth and the entrance to the east river. We anchored up and fished the east river side ledge. The current was ripping hard and dragging 3/4 ounce sinkers 3 mph upriver. We used the current and let it drag our baits until we located a school of rock bass nearby. We boated about 20 before moving closer to the shoreline as the tide was nearing its peak. Close to shore we found tons of just short trout and short reds. We ended up boating about 80 of them between the both of us. Everything we caught was just short. We did get a near 20" trout just off the shore line to end the day. On the day we caught over 100 total fish. Everything was caught very close to the mouth, or the mouth of the east river. We didn't travel any further then 3 markers short of the wreck by the lighthouse. The only keepers for the afternoon were two 14" bsb, and the 19.5" Trout. Another great afternoon at St Marks.
