Saturday 12/7: St Marks Whiteout

Fished Saturday from around noon just after the negative bottom, till after dark at the peak high. Water was lower than expected so we killed some time, and the trout, at the mouth of the St. Marks. Fog was thick, but varying. Ran out onto the flats only to get stopped for an hour by low visibility; no fish at ~3' for us. Weather cleared and we ended up catching short reds in the first few bends of creeks. All reds were caught on ADL spoons; trout were on topwater & twitchbaits. The reds bite was hot toward the top of the tide, so that we stayed at it until after sunset. We left them biting at twilight only to hit some THICK fog on the ride back. Now it was thick on the flats (maybe 100' vis), but as soon as we hit the river it was a complete white out. I could barely see my trolling motor at the bow. Then it got dark. 
Scary stuff. The ride to the Fort takes quite a bit longer at idle. 
I have a new found appreciation for my GPS.
In the warmer weather we have been doing very well with trout on bottom tides in holes off bars. The red bite has also been good in creeks just before/after the high. Lots of shorts to sort through....
