Went and trolled the DI reef for some hispanic mackerals and boated six. One being a good 29" long----he burned up the clicker/drag on my Penn 209 Level wind! Spanish were sporadic, not in large schools today.
Trolled for some Kings with a Stretch 25 and a lure I made myself which is basically on oversized spanish mackeral rig.....weighted king duster on front with a 7/0 treble hook with the largest Clark Spoon you can get trailing behind. Kings will knock the fire out of it! But found bait jumping and birds diving..no luck hooking one. Saw one running some bait.
Stopped at a spot about 5.5 mi S of Dog Island and anchored up. Told my galfriend's son who was with me to put a big ole chunk of squid on that Daichi and see if anything is home down below. A nice 28" gag was definitely home!
About a 10#'er. I was firing down some dead LY's...getting nothing but pecks. He sent another big chunk of squid down and got him a right at 22" gag. Wound up catching a lone sea bass also. It was gettin' late so we went on in with enough fish to feed about 9 people.
