The little boat that could....or did

Last Sunday morning Bottomtime and myself duck hunted. We were getting some decent action but a buddy of mine a few hundread yds up from us was on the X and shot his limit by 8am and while looking for a cripple came over and said he was leaving and for us to go get in that blind and he would leave is decoys out to make the move as quick as we could if we'd pick'm up so we picked up our spread and made the move. Well, needless to say we didn't get the shooting that he did.

I didn't realize how many decoys he had out until we were in the blind for a short time. I knew it was going to be a full boat on the ride back with his decoys in the boat too and boy was it. I knew the boat was well built and had plenty of floatation in it but we put it to the test and to our supprise the boat floated just about as high as if it were empty and I was very confident with it and never felt unsafe.

Now it was time to try to get on plane, remember I'm running a 10hp surface drive. never having this much weight in this new rig before I was really unsure that it would plane out but again to our supprise it jumped right up on plane within about 6' and away we went with no worries at all and made the 1 1/2 mile ride to the ramp.

We had 540lbs of flesh in the boat, right at 8 doz decoys (100+/-lbs), 2 shell boxes, 2 guns, a cranking battery, 110lbs of motor, 180lbs of boat (dry weight) and 2- 10lb anchors. I don't practice running the boat weighted like this but I'm glad to know that it can handle more than I'll ever have it it again while feeling safe all along.

If any of you are looking for a lil sturdy glass/foam boat, I'd highly recommend looking at the Wigeon my buddy builds.

I'm ready to hit the shallow water reds in it.

I knew a guy once that had a boat like that. I gave him a Flyway blind for it, and he said he would take me hunting one day. He never called so I said screw him. :smt006

To shoot ducks? Yes

To sit in the boat and watch the sunrise with you? No

All I can guarentee is I'll get you out and back. Anything else is a bonus :lick:

I figured your barrel would be warped from all the shooting on the duck lease

I will try to take a picture. It is the same boat as yours. I got mine from Coody and I had Jamie move my flyway blind from another boat to this one. I only have a 6.5hp motor though until I get off my butt and put the new 11hp electric start motor installed on the frame.

So far it has been a great little boat. With the blind up, the ducks don't seem bothered by it.

The only two very small issues I've had are that with the floatation pods in the rear, turning around in the rear seat can be a challenge for a big guy and the seat pods are a little low for old men. The only fix for the first problem is to make my hunting buddy and his size 13 boot sit up front and the 2nd is best for duck hunting and could be fixed with a 6" metal pedastal.

It takes the water well and is very light weight. I have not bounced it off any stumps to test its toughness yet., but I ain't scared, because it appears to be very well built.

I talked to several folks about this boat before I bought it and they all recommended it.

I can see where the extra foam in the back could get in the way of big feet LOL and the seats are low but I should be good for at least 15 or so more yrs before that becomes an issue :-D You could put a riser on them to raise them up or have Cody cut them out and make some taller ones for ya i guess. I bounced mine off of a cypress tree and was expecting some damage but couldnt find any. I measured from the water to the top of my head while sitting down and it was 33-34"
