The roommate and I took the canoe out of Bottoms Rd. on Saturday to fish around the bay and it was a so-so fishing day but the weather was beautiful. We paddled around Levy Bay all day long in search of reds, trout and flounder and we struck out using only artificials. We did, however, see another boat pulling in trout all day long using live baits :smt010.

We decided to call it a day around 5 and began our paddle back towards Bottoms Rd when out of the corner of my eye I saw a very brave Spanish Mack leap out of the water to hit my Gulp shrimp that was unintentionally being "trolled" off the side of the canoe. Initially the Mack missed the bait but it came back and hit it again! After landing the fish we began throwing spoons and Gulps with a fast retrieve and we were in the thick of the school! It finally felt good to feel a fish at the end of the line after a relatively slow day. Had a bunch of break offs (decided to forgo the wire leaders) and we released a bunch but it was just the excitement we needed to "save the day."
