Steinhatchee 3/22

Took the Admiral out for the first time this year, she didn't want to go early so got on the water around 10:30. Ran out to Steinhatchee Reef to see if the convicts were biting, nothing but sea bass. Word on the radio was the convict bite was slow to nonexistent as the tide was dead low. Headed in to 5' and tried the trout, got consistent bites between 5' - 6' bite stopped in less than 5', ended up with 15 lower slot in about 2 hours, bite was very aggressive if they missed I could usually let the bait fall for a second chance hookup, it was a catch and release day for me.
The Admiral got cut off several times but eventually landed two spanish mackerel, she fished live shrimp with no trout at all.
Water clarity was not so great, probably 18" or so, some floating grass as well. Never saw water temp above 68.5. All trout on a jerk bait, macs on shrimp.
There was a stretch limo at Roy's (Prom?) so stopped at Fiddlers for dinner.
Glad to be on the water, nice day and seems about ready for the spring flats explosion!
