Carrabelle 4/24-4/25

Post by birddog »

Left Carrabelle Marina 7:30 a.m. headed to the Yamaha Reef hoping to get some Amberjack action. Nothing happening when we got there. Moved on to the southeast checking holes along the way. Eventually were able to pick up 14 keeper red and gag grouper and a slew of throwbacks. Of the grouper 1 was a 15.5 lb. gag, 1 - 14 lb. gag., 1- 12 lb. gag , and 1- 10.5 lb. red grouper. The 15.5 lb gag took second place grouper in the Grady White Boat Owners Tournament . Also found some Amberjack later, of the 9 we caught only 3 were keepers at 33"-34". Man those rascals can pull! The bite really seem to turn on around 11:00 a.m. The afternoon was pretty slow. Grouper hit any frozen bait offered. Caught the amberjacks on live pin fish. Seas started off 2-3', and was slick as glass by afternoon. Stayed in 60-70' water all day. Ended up fishing as far as 28 miles to the southeast of the east end of Dog Island.

Sunday left Carrabelle Marina at 7:30 a.m. Headed out to the O tower. Seas were alittle rougher than Sat. Fished around the O tower most of the morning then worked our way back in. Ended up with 9 keeper grouper. 1 gag was 14 lb. All were respectable fish. Same bait as the day before. Bite seemed a little slower on Sunday. Had one King break off on the anchor rope. Had a great weekend . Can't wait to go back. Congratulations to Ben McLin of the Hook and Ladder. He took home the Top Grady White Boat trophy with some nice Kings and Red Snapper.

Atticus- My father in-law has a 24' cuddy cabin. Wish I could tell you I owned one but these plantation jobs don't quite pay enough for me to afford one.

Chalk- That probably was us you saw Sun. We kept to the North side of the O tower. Hate you fellows had anchor trouble. We could have fixed the one we broke and let ya'll have the spare.

Good deal BirdDog, I went down Saturday Fueled up and set my Pinfish trap as well as one Tom dropped off. The river was packed with Grady's. What a site that was. I suddenly felt ashamed of my Luhrs. :-D
