Me and my wonderful, recently turned pro fisher wife, launched Saturday morning from Shell island around 0800. We made a long run east through really choppy conditions to the aucilla area. My wife was not thrilled at all with the ride over but she refuses to stand up while riding so IMHO she cant complain too much. We fished 3-6 ft of water for about 45 mins without a single bite. She was fishing gulps under a CT and I was throwing a CC Redfin in gold color. After the "I told you we wouldnt catch anything over here" from her finally started to set in, I decided to just start working our way back west until we got on some fish. We Stopped around the grey mare area in about 4 ft of water and decided to give it a try. 30 Minutes went by with nothin. We moved maybe another mile West and tried again in 4 ft of water. Pretty quick I had the first trout in the boat around 19". We caught 1 more small spanish and a bunch of lady fish. I decided to move us closer to shore to about 3.5 ft. That seemed to be the ticket, although it could have had somethin to do with the Major feed times too since that was the time we started catching fish. We finished our limit around 1230 in the same area just going back and forth and restarting the drift. The fish were not jumping in the boat, but almost every fish we caught was over 16". We didn't catch anything over 20, but my wife experienced her first "The one that got away". She lost it right before I could get it in the net. It was definitely over 20". She told me over and over how she was done fishing forever and was heartbroke
Oh and once she figured out that I was fishing with "her" pole, she never let me forget that's the reason why she wasn't catching all the fish this trip. I took her a couple weeks ago and had a really good day. But, that day she caught 7 keeper trout and a 28" and 26" spanish to my 2 keeper trout. It was a great Saturday on the water with my wife and I'm happy I have put her on some fish to get her hooked.
