Gonna try using a Jamfab jig on some rock piles for grouper. Have never tried it before and was wondering if there is anything special I need to know. Like should I tip the jig with squid or shrimp? Do I jig hard and fast? Should I bring it up off the bottom in the water colum or leave it on the bottom? When does the bite usually occur, on the up or on the fall. I need some help guys and I'm all ears.

I normally tip with fishbites. Try jigging both ways. I tend to drop all the way down then rip it up 10 to 15 feet off the bottom and drop it again. If they are going to hit it, it will be on the fall and so when you go to rip it up again you'll be setting the hook.

If that doesn't work try putting on the bottom and letting it sit for a minute and lift it about 2 feet and jig, then drop it again. Also try putting a curly tail jig body on it for some action.

These 2 methods work for me. Your results may vary.

We have had a lot of luck with jigs while trolling for grouper. When we get a grouper hooked up trolling, we will toss the jig in behind him when we get him close to the boat. Usually he is being followed by his buddies trying to get whatever he ate. They can't resist the jig and usually hit it. We throw it 20 to 30 feet behind him, let it sink about 10 feet and start snatching as hard as you can.
