We got a late start due to a leaking tire on my truck, but we got the boat in at around noon, just after high tide peak. We put out at the small ramp at Hickory Mound and stayed in close. Nothing was biting until we rode toward econfina a mile or two fishing the mouths of sloughs as the tide receded. We finally got a small run at around 2:30 where we caught 3 trout 14", 16", and 19", a short redfish at 25", and an oyster fish. We kept the only 2 keeper trout and fished a little longer but the tide was dropping fast. We headed in at around 4:00 and found out it was already too shallow. Low tide was projected for 7:00. The water was still dark and muddy, but clearing a bit compared to what it was a couple weeks ago. Water temp was 85.5. We barely scraped in with the trolling motor and headed home.

Haha! Yes, 15"! Too bad it wasn't 25".

I'm glad we got in when we did too, I wasn't expecting it to be that shallow that soon since the low tide was +.06. I think I may try putting out at Aucilla at the snipe island ramp... I was told it's not as shallow in that area? I'll have to learn the area, but I've been fishing hickory mound for a few years and I'm kind of ready for a change. That, or I might go back to putting in at Econfina and just riding over to hickory mound. Heck, the amount of time it takes to drive the bumpy road, I can be there in the boat before then. I just like being near the truck in the summer months 'cause those storms pop up quick.
