I don't fish the river or river mouth, but have had good luck running and fishing Rock Island or running the other way and fishing toward Spring Warrior. Very shallow channel when tide is low.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

This time of the year you prolly won't find any trout in the river, but there's good fishing both directions from the mouth of the river. It can be rough to navigate on a low tide and there'e lots of rocks and oyster bars. So be careful on your maiden trip. You will prolly find the area around the river to be really stained from the earlier rainfall but it should clear the further you venture either way. Good luck!

What about the boat ramps. I see two on the map. They look small with not much parking. Is one better than the other for launching?

Thanks again

micci_man, my wife and I limited out yesterday (6-20-14) out from the Fin. on trout by twelve. Seems early morning they tore them up fishing the grass line near shore. I seldom go in that close. I tear up more that it is worth when I do. We put in at Keaton and run up to the trout grounds out from Eagle's Nest Creek/Fenholloway channel. Also good fishing in the bay on the north side of Rock Island.

Try it, I think you will like it!

Both are fairly small and both have limited parking. One is much closer to the mouth of the river. Be careful on the ramps. The one near the mouth has a BIG drop off.
