Shell Point 7/4-6
Went down for the holiday weekend hoping to catch some fish and pick up some scallops. Friday we fished pretty hard and caught a bunch of shorts and small sharks with just a few keeper trout in the mix. We decided to run east of the Rock GArden to scallop that afternoon. We cleared all the partygoers at St MArks and headed for my scalloping area. I got a really bad feeling when I was two miles out and could not see another boat. I guess I missed the memo, because I was expecting 200+ other boats out there. Between the 6 of us, we picked up 7 scallops in an hour despite being over good grass so we decided to convert back to fishing. We caught some more shorts and the highlight was when I caught a ladyfish and was bringing it in to the boat. It was splashing on the surface when a big bull shark came up and ate it. I am now hooked up with the bull and we chase it for about two minutes until he cut through my leader. Nobody wanted to swim after that so we headed back home. Saturday we fished basically all day with mostly shorts to show for it. We fished transition points, deep, shallow, live baits, artificials, anything I could think of trying to get a legal fish. I finally tried one last spot and caught a 17" trout to claim the only beer in the ice chest. My buddy was upset, until I followed it up with a 23" trout and then he was really upset. We got hot and ran to Spring Creek for a swim and then dinner. Sunday, I got a late start as I had to take my son to the Tallahassee Airport by 6 am. It was 8 before I was out on the water. It was really calm and I thought about making a big run, but decided to just take it easy. I started fishing along the edge of a flat throwing a super spook. The water clarity was good and I was able to watch a 2ft+ monster trout follow my bait for about 20 feet before he spooked at the boat. There were a lot of glass minnows so I downsized my bait and that was the ticket. 5 topwater hookups, but only one 17' to the boat. Switched to pinfish and had the finest 30 minutes of fishing I have had all year. Caught 12 trout between 17-20" before the bite died. It was a great way to end the weekend with my 5 fish limit at the house by 10.

Thanks for the report. I caught pins for the first time this Sunday and was wondering if they were very good trout bait. Threw a couple out under a popper but only caught a small shark. Switched back to shrimp as I was doing pretty well with them.
