This weekend was one of our not often enough CCCV fishing weekends. My good friends Jodie, Trip, and Lonnie Cahoon, and myself, get together as often as possible for a 3 day weekend of fishing. This weekend had it's problems. Lonnie hurt his back Thursday, and had to cancel. Jodie, Trip and I went forward as planned. After a rough start Friday morning (weather related) we were on the water by 1:30 Friday afternoon. We headed east to an area I caught fish during the NFGFC tournament. We were fishing a falling tide, and, when the tide slowed the wind quit. The bite shut down. We did manage 12 trout, most over 18". Saturday morning we decided not to venture very far because of the wind and iffy weather. The bite was slow, with no concentration of fish. We were back on the trailers by 2:30 with 15 trout, 12 of them over 18", the largest measuring just over 24". This morning (Sunday) we decided to fish the same area because of the weather. To our surprise it wasn't that rough. We drifted the same area we caught fish yesterday. Nothing!. So, we went further out. Then the wind picked up. We decided to ride the wind in, and picked up 4 trout, all 18" to 21". Trip also landed a 25" spanish. By 11:30 we had drifted most of the way back in, and it had gotten ugly. As those who have fished with me will attest, the Tin Can is a very wet ride in rough water. Everything we had got soaked on the way in.
We didn't catch great numbers of fish this weekend. But most of the fish we caught were fat, quality fish, most being over 18", with several over 20". The water east of the river is cloudy. The water west of the river is much cleaner. The water temp was between 71 and 76 degrees everywhere we went. Most of thhe fish were caught on CT's with a chartreuse grub, or Catch 2000's. It was good quality time spent with very good friends.
