Got out around 930-10 and found some boiling water on the flats. Picked up a huge Spainish on the first cast... about 26". Was quite a surprise on light tackle.

Chased them around a bit and hooked into a decent 10lb amberjack... He was peeling the drag and once I got him to the boat a 7' bull showed up but saw me and took off.

Got tired of that so I moved to the grassflats.. Caught about 6-7 short trout before I found a decent spot and got 2 keepers around 17". Fished with a popping cork with either live shrimp or gulp shrimp all day.

Kept fishing and got 2 sailcats and a few smaller sharks and headed back.

Not bad for my first fishing trip since I bought my rig over the weekend. its a Proline 17' with a mariner 150... Overpowered but a nice setup.

Nice report. A 26" spaniard is a fun fight. Congrats on the new sled. 150 on a 17', she must fly. What's your top end?

I've had it over 50 without trying too hard.. Trimmed out I'd guess about 55 or so.

Its actually a large 17' @ 1500lbs(hull only).

I thought it was a fun fight until that equal size amberjack got me. My wrist still hurts.

Thanks for the report and congrats on the new boat. How far out were you when you hooked the amberjack? I haven't fished St. Marks since acquiring my new rig (15'6" Gheenoe Classic with 15hp Johnson)

Not far at all.
1-2 miles.

You would have done well there in a Gheenoe... matter of fact in the morning you could have ran wherever you wanted it was flat as glass. The afternoon not so much.

Boiling water was everywhere. It was hard to tell if they were jacks or macks but once you get close enough its pretty easy to tell since the macks were going airborne.(I suspect they were together)

In a square half mile there must have been 10 separate boils with some BIG fish in there.

Nice! I plan to get out there soon and start to learn the area.
