Tin Can turned me on to A/C Delco 27 Series batteries for the trolling motor. Those suckers have lasted a LONG time and I have no complaints other than the weight. Just putting feelers out there for a replacement. I'll most likely go back with the Delco's but wouldn't mind shedding some weight. I will NEVER buy an Optima again, they don't last long enough to warrant the price.

Costco sells Interstate Batteries SRM-24 and SRM-27 with a different model number. I've had great performance from the 24 and at 70 something bucks, hard to beat.

I have also had good service from my Interstate batteries. I refuse to spend the big $ on batteries. I just keep mine on trickle chargers when not in use.

I have a blue top optima that I've had for 6 years and I still get great service. I use a computerized charger for it.

I have a blue top optima that I've had for 3 years and it stinks, but it holds enough to operate my farm gate.

I have two blue top optimas that I've used the last 2 years in 24v applications and they are great.

I use a computerized charger for my batteries.

In the meantime, I've owned several other brands, including regular acid batteries and agm batteries that didn't last too long either in use or in life.

Another vote here for Interstate batteries. They are not any lighter than the Delco's, but my past experience has me believing that they last a lot longer.

I want to say those Delco's lasted close to 10 years, but I will check out the Costco Interstates.
I'm like everyone else…I've had a good Optima, but the last two died out quick.

I bought a NAPA deep cycle that lasted almost 9 months. The replacement lasted about the same. Don't buy a NAPA battery...

I'll second this! I used to have them under my console on my Ol Pro, but no more!

Very good results from both Interstate cranking and deep cycle batteries!

Johnson Controls makes the Interstate Batteries. They make the Everstart Batteries that Wal-Mart sells, the Duralast from Autozone, the Diehard from Sears, and most of the other brands out there. They are the largest lead acid battery maker in North America. That's not saying that they make all of the brands exactly the same, but I doubt there is a lot of difference between them beyond packaging. So price and warranty should probably be considered before brand. Wal-mart Everstart Maxx series is not a bad choice in that regard.

Interesting that you gentleman are having trouble with the Optima blue tops. I am on my second pair under console for a 24v Minn Kota without very many complaints. The first pair lasted 6 seasons or so.

I bought the Costco Interstates series 27…no more Optima's for me.

I've started using agm batteries that are used for hospital backups. I only give $35 for group 24 and $45 for group 27 batteries.
