At first it was slow, tried it in 3-5 foot like the other guy posted and had no luck. Only when we got to 8 to 10 feet did we find the fish. Limited out on trout, two bluefish, 10 black bass and a jolt head Porgie. We left them biting. All the fish were caught on gulps.

It was brutally hot out there and I will post some pics when I get near a desktop computer.

sound like you had a good time ,thanks for the report ,them blue pull hard caught 2 on Friday and did not wan't any more

Were you fishing with a cork or on the bottom?

Anybody have any good blackening recipes? I hit the Seine Yard afterwards and their blackened Grouper sandwich is off da hook!

Dredge in butter, blacken seasoning( Paul P's). And put in a black iron skillet ON the coals for about a min per side


But don't expect it to be as good as blackened grouper

Good report and thanks for posting. I smoked a Blue and a Spanish once and mixed the meat together for a dip. It was good! Have eaten fresh Blues fried with red meat trimmed off and it was good, Most of the time I cut them up and give to the cats. They seem to like them.

So the blackened blue, trout and sea bass was a hit... I used Zatarains, is there anyway to turn down the spicyness?

Yea, I know they eat bluefish up north and seem to like it. Last year a group of guys fried up Spanish, blues and trout. The racoons got in the trash that night and didn't touch the bluefish. There wasnt a piece of trout or Spanish to be found. I've never known wildlife to be picky or get full, but if the racoons won't eat them, neither will I.

I've eaten bluefish, not terrible but not great either. There are much tastier( and less oily) fish out there. I much prefer grouper and snapper to all inshore species( except maybe flounder).

I think it is great if y'all like em. I'd much rather see folks release redfish and keep blues for dinner. But I bet most people that eat bluefish don't release keeper reds.
Dog island reef is covered up with them now, if you like bluefish, now is the time to go fill the cooler.
