school of slot reds

While fishing west of Bald point yesterday afternoon saw the water color change from the dark to a greyish green moving area. I'm color blind so the color may actually be different but I moved quietly up to the moving blob and started casting a spoon. Wow one 24" red in the boat, then another and finally had landed 10 before my arms just said "quit". The school was huge and kept moving past me like a parade. About 2pm. I have never seen anything like it before. Then it just moved away and I could not find it. In about 5' of water.Has anyone else seen a school like this? Water temp was 85.

Congratulations, it's great when it happens. Glad you were able to hit double digits before they moved off.

Saw a school like that labor day weekend last year in Lanark. We caught 3 fish (1 each) and never saw em again after. Pretty crazy how that many fish can disappear in 3-4 foot of water.

Seen it a couple of times. Had 'em fighting to get the bait. Had one come off at the boat when 2 fish ambushed the hooked one and knocked the spoon out of his mouth. Cool when it happens.

Had that happen a couple of years ago but it was with 40 inch fish! Fortunately we had a couple of heavier rods on the boat so that my twin boys were able to fight the ones we hooked. It was like grouper fishing to the two of them. 5 foot of water and they vanished as well. Sight of a lifetime. That was the boys first redfish. They were hooked on em after that. -r

Its that time of year. We ran into a big school of slot, just over slot redfish at the mouth of the Ocklocknee. Seems like they show up there on the outgoing tide

Twice I have run into big schools of reds on the east end of Lanark reef while staked out looking for Tarpon over the years!! Now that was an amazing sight!!

If you get lucky, there will be a few birds following the reds, but they do move fast. Like a pack of tazmanian devils...
